Harry and Meghan's efforts in Colombia deserve applause, not mockery, says expert

Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan Markle, 43, have embarked on a four-day tour of Colombia with the aim of educating young people on how to tackle cyberbullying and promoting mental health awareness.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were warmly received at the residence of Vice President Francia Marquez in Bogota's heart on Thursday, with the couple making their entrance "hand in hand".

As their whirlwind tour of the South American nation kicks off, a top Royal expert has commented that while it's "easy to poke fun" at the pair, their efforts are "to be applauded."

Jennie Bond, former BBC Royal correspondent, told OK!: "It's becoming their signature look...arriving hand in hand, Harry looking pretty casual, Meghan looking sharp, stylish and glamorous. So far it has all the hallmarks of a quasi-royal tour... An official welcome from the VP (a slight downgrade on a presidential welcome), a cultural event to follow... And then the serious business of the discussions about online dangers for children. ".

"It's all too easy to poke fun at them for doing this semi-royal stuff after they fled the life of working royals in the UK, but they are making us talk about the dangers of the internet to our children and looking for solutions. And that has to be applauded. "

With a live band playing in the background, the couple appeared to be deeply moved as they shook hands with an elderly veteran in particular as he proudly wore his service medals pinned to his chest and enjoyed a particularly poignant chat with both royals.

Later in the day, Prince Harry himself even got stuck into the sporting action and while he couldn’t be tempted into taking on the climbing wall, he did indulge in a game of seated volleyball - much to the delight of the national team!

The author and royal critic said the couple's recent trip to Colombia, as well as the onesin NigeriaandJamaicaearlier this year, only "prove" thatPrince Harry's concerns regarding his security detail while he and his family are in the UK only serve him to blackmail "his own family".

The Duke of Sussex brought legal action against the Home Office over the security arrangements for himself and his family when they are in the UK.

Harry contested the Home Office's February 2020 decision that he should receive a different degree of protection when he returned to the UK after he quit his royal duties that same year.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘will undermine UK foreign policy’ with world tour - expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's international tours could lead to a run-in with the British Foreign Office as the Sussexes risk "undermining" Britain, an expert tells the Daily Express.

Having toured Nigeria in May, the couple touched down in Colombia on Thursday for another international visit.

According to reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could embark on something of a 'world tour' with trips to more countries in the future.

Although they stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family back in the 2020, they still use their royal titles, and many have speculated their plans could undermine the UK Government as well as working members of the Firm.

Hilary Fordwich, a British royal commentator based in the US, tells the Daily Express that more visits could lead to the couple coming to blows with the UK Foreign Office.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Colombian host's inspiring rise from cleaner to VP

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have embarked on the first day of their Colombian tour, warmly welcomed by their host, Vice President Francia Marquez. The invitation came after Marquez was moved by the couple's Netflix documentary.

However, Marquez is far from your typical dignitary or career politician, having risen from humble beginnings and survived numerous assassination attempts to reach the top of national politics.

In 2022, the 42-year-old made history by becoming Colombia's first black VP, in a country where the large black population often faces discrimination.

The left-wing environmental activist managed to mobilise a significant number of disenfranchised voters, leading the New York Times to label her a "national phenomenon."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal titles at risk as King convenes Balmoral summit

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's titles are up for discussion at Balmoral next week when the Royal Family meet for their annual summer holiday, Express.co.uk has learned.

According to our extremely well-placed source, one point of discussion at what has been dubbed a "royal family summit" will be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and how they will fit in with the Royal Family over the next decade.

"The Royal Family are meeting at Balmoral to discuss a number of different things, but one of them will be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex," said the source.

"What people don't realise is that the Balmoral gathering isn't just a summer holiday. The family also participates in pre-arranged meetings where they discuss the family's current position and how they can best prepare for the future.

"Last year was very much about honouring the Queen as it was the King's first time hosting the gathering since her death, but this will be about how the family can best move forward without the Sussexes.

Royal Family's A Level results - who did the best and the worst?

Hundreds of thousands of students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland received their exam results this morning as they prepare to make their plans after school.

Members of the Royal Family had to also go through the same process at one point in their lives, with some of them more academically successful than others.

The Prince of Wales received his A-level results 24 years ago before he got accepted into the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where he met his future wife, Princess Kate.

Meanwhile, Lady Louise Windsor was the last British royal to receive her A-level results in 2022, following the steps of the Prince and Princess of Wales and securing her place at St Andrews university.

Express.co.uk took a look at how well the royals did on their A levels.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 'secret nicknames' among staff - and what inspired them

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were given secret code names by their security detail during their tenure as senior royals, it has been revealed.

Code names are often used for discretion when discussing royal members.

During their time as working royals, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were known to their security team as 'Daphne Clark' and 'Danny Collins', with the initials 'DC' representing the Duke or Duchess of Cambridge.

British Heritage Travel reports that Meghan and Harry were also assigned nicknames. Meghan was referred to as 'Davina Scott', while Harry was known as 'David Stevens'.

These names were frequently used by royal security personnel, with the 'DS' initials standing for the Duke or Duchess of Sussex.

Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's chief of staff felt 'uncomfortable' before shock exit

A fresh light was shone on the Sussexes’ staffing problem earlier this week when it was revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had lost their eighteenth member of staff in just a few years.

Josh Kettler suddenly quit his role as Chief of Staff for the Sussexes after barely three months in the job amid much intrigue.

When Kettler was appointed, he was described as the perfect man to "guide" Prince Harry "through his next phase".

While a spokesman for the Sussexes declined to comment on Kettler’s departure, an anonymous source subsequently briefed People magazine in the United States - a title that has seemingly been used to put across the couple's point of view in the past - that Kettler had been "hired on a trial basis".

The source claimed that "the decision to part ways was mutual, with both sides agreeing it wasn’t the right fit".

'Real reason' why Prince Harry and Meghan's chief of staff quit just before Colombia tour

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's chief of staff, Josh Kettler, quit just three months into his new job for one particular reason, according to insiders.

Mr Kettler, a seasoned public relations expert, made headlines earlier this week as he shockingly quit his post after only a quarter of the year working for the couple.

But sources have claimed that he was hired on a trial basis to"guide Harry through the next phase" and the decision to part ways was "mutual", with both sides agreeing it was not the "correct fit".

Mr Kettler, who was previously chief of staff at communication platform Cognixion, started working with the Sussexes just before their trip to Nigeria back in May.

8 bombshells from day one of Meghan and Harry's Colombia tour

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's contentious four-day Colombian tour has commenced, with the first day already brimming with drama.

The Sussexes landed in Colombia today, where they were welcomed by Vice-President Francia Marquez. Their itinerary included a visit to a school, a musical performance at an arts centre in Bogota, and an internet safety summit.

Throughout their visit, the couple will be accompanied by a full security detail and Ms Marquez, who extended the invitation for what is being referred to as a DIY Royal tour.

This quasi-royal tour, bearing many resemblances to an official Royal overseas visit, marks the Sussexes' second this year, following their three-day trip to Nigeria at the request of the West African nation's chief of defence staff. The first day of their South American journey has already seen several bombshell revelations....
